Dave Mason, guitarist and founding member of Traffic, dies

British singer, guitarist and author Dave Masonfounding member of Traffichas died at the age of seventy-nine at his home in Nevada after a long career in rock.

In a statement released on social networks, his team explained that the artist died on April 19 at his home in Gardnerville, after a normal routine day with his wife. Although the causes of his death have not been detailed, Mason had recently canceled several commitments due to health problems, after being diagnosed in 2024 with a serious heart condition.

Born in Worcestershire in 1946, the musician formed Traffic in 1967 with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood. The group debuted with “Mr. Fantasy”which included songs like “Hole in My Shoe”, one of their biggest hits in the United Kingdom.
Throughout his time in the band, marked by entrances and exits, Mason signed key songs such as “Feelin’ Alright?”, which achieved greater popularity in Joe Cocker’s version.

Beyond Trafficdeveloped a solo career with songs like “We Just Disagree” or “Only You and I Know”, and collaborated with artists like Jimi Hendrix either The Rolling Stones. He was also part of Fleetwood Mac in the nineties, collaborating in the making of the album “Time” in 1995.

An unforgettable career that earned him inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 along with his Traffic bandmates and that culminates with the publication of his memoirs in 2024. The book, titled “Only You Know & I Know,” reviews his career through anecdotes and testimonies from collaborators and friends.
