The death of Dave Allenwho was bassist of Gang of Four in the first two discs of the formation and in a brief later period.
Hugo Burnhamoriginal battery of what is one of the most influential groups in the history of post-punk, has announced the news through its social networks.
“With a broken heart we share the news that Dave Allen, our musical partner, friend and brilliant musician, died on Saturday morning at home, next to his family,” Burnham written.
Allen suffered from an important physical deterioration for some time, because of a dementia that had evolved. In fact, the original idea was for Allen to take the stage with Gang of Four in his current farewell tour, but that will no longer be possible.
After leaving Gang of Four, Dave Allen founded the band Shriekback next to Barry Andrews of XTCin addition to the record World Domination Records. Subsequently, he was part of The Elastic Purejoy and Low Pop Suicidein the United States.
During his last professionals, Allen no longer exercised as a musician, but was part of the Beats Music company, which would later become part of Apple Music.
Allen participated in Gang of Four’s classic albums “Entertainment!” (79), one of the great post-power albums of all time, and “Solid Gold” (81). In 2004 he joined the training again and recorded “Return to Gift” In 2005, but the group would leave again in 2008.
Allen adds to the also missing Andy Gillone of the brains of Gang of Four and one of the most original and personal guitarists of his generation, who died in February 2020 at the age of sixty -four.
