Coachella is by Sabrina Carpenter: furs, cars and Susan Sarandon

Sabrina Carpenter promised to deliver her “most ambitious” show to date on her return to Coachella as a headliner. The Californian festival began its new edition on the night of this Friday, April 10, with Carpenter’s being the most anticipated concert. There are many reasons why he has kept his promise. In addition, Carolina Durante made their debut at the event, Turnstile paid tribute to Brendan Yates’ father and Teddy Swims invested in guests.

The author of ‘Man’s Best Friend’ began her set with a short film in which she appears as a motorist who goes over the speed limit and is stopped by, no more and no less, a police officer played by the legendary actor Sam Elliott. This is the first of several top-level cameos. However, it is clear from the moment he walks down the catwalk to the sound of ‘House Tour’ that the memorable part of the set is going to be the elaborate sets.

These included the Hollywood Hills, whose iconic sign is converted to “Sabrinawood,” as it could not be otherwise; a display of vintage cars, dancers and water fountains throughout the stage during ‘Tears; and a bizarre furry fantasy, with the male dance team dressed as poodles, for ‘Manchild’.

Sabrina did not leave anyone indifferent with her guests. Susan Sarandon performed a monologue as the Carpenter of the future in which she reflected on her wild years in the music industry, talking about her granddaughter and how she is perceived by her: “Aunt Sabrina is happy, but she doesn’t smile.” This was followed by Will Ferrell, playing a funny electrician, and the voice of Samuel L. Jackson during ‘Juno’: “Finish the fucking song,” the actor exclaimed.

The performance was not without its share of controversy. In a quiet moment of the set, with Sabrina at the piano, an audience member let out a cry of joy known as zaghrouda, typical of Arab culture, which the singer confused with yodeling: «Is this what you do? “I don’t like it,” Carpenter said.

In the rest of the day, Turnstile’s performance stood out for its topical element. The introduction of the show was given by Bill Yates, the father of vocalist Brendan Yates, who was recently run over by the former guitarist of his son’s band: “They have been practicing at home for 13 years. “They left the basement empty recently,” came over the speakers.

Teddy Swims, on the other hand, invited such immensely different figures as Joe Jonas, Vanessa Carlton and David Lee Roth to the stage. He introduced the first one as “the sexiest and most talented Jonas Brother” before performing ‘When You Look Me In The Eyes’ as a duet. The same thing happened with ‘A Thousand Miles’ and Vanessa Carlton, before the Van Halen vocalist gave it his all with ‘Jump’.

Finally, Carolina Durante made their debut at the festival, previewed by an already iconic billboard: «Burgers. Soccer. “My mom,” it reads, in reference to the lyrics of ‘Hamburguesas’.
