A couple of months ago, the release of ‘Christmas’, Cher’s Christmas album, with a tremendous cover, was received lukewarmly by our commentators. The lead single from ‘Christmas’, an original song written for her, has exploded onto playlists and Christmas charts and has just climbed into the top 20 in the UK.
‘DJ Play a Christmas Song’, an electropop fantasy passed through Autotune, has achieved its best position in the British charts since ‘The Music’s No Good Without You’ reached number 8 in 2001. Furthermore, this means that Cher has had a top 40 for 7 consecutive decades, since last decade ‘I Hope You Find It’, a ballad from ‘Closer to the Truth’, her last studio album with original songs to date, arrived to 25th place.
This Cher single, which was presented on the Graham Norton show as you can see below, also managed to reach the top 20 in Ireland and reach the top 100 in Germany and Canada. Its international impact is less than in the United Kingdom, but at least it revitalizes Cher’s catalog to a small extent.
