Charli XCX, “super jealous” of Lorde's 'Royals' success

Can you be envious of someone for having the same lipstick? Charli XCX would say yes. The British singer has admitted in a new interview with Rolling Stone that she was “super jealous” of Lorde's success following the release of 'Royals'. These are the reasons for it.

In this interview, Charli recalled her speech at the last Billboard Women In Music event last March, in which she talked about the taboo of jealousy between women in the industry. “You can feel envy and still be a good person who supports other women, but it's not a very sexy feeling or characteristic, right?” the British woman developed for Rolling Stone.

This is where the topic of Lorde came up, being asked about her own past jealousy. “When 'Royals' came out, she was super jealous of the success the song received, and the success Ella received,” the '360' author began. She then listed everything that had led her to think like this: “He liked my music. He had long hair, so did I. She wore black lipstick, I wore it once. “You create these comparisons and think that that could have been you,” the British woman admitted.

Now that Lorde and Charli are friends, she has been able to deduce what led her to have those thoughts about the New Zealand singer: “I think you see what you want because you feel insecure about your own work.”
