Charli xcx has released “Rock Music”, a new single with which he temporarily distances himself from the club universe of “Brat” to explore a sound characterized by guitars, although without completely moving away from his musical universe.
The song comes accompanied by a video clip with a “grunge” aesthetic in which regular collaborators appear such as A.G. Cook, Finn Keaneformerly known as Easyfun, and George Danielmember of The 1975 and husband of the artist.
The song gives shape to some recent statements by the singer for “British Vogue”, where she stated that “the dance floor is dead, so now we’re making rock music.” However, he later clarified that he was not exactly preparing “a rock album.” Finally, the phrase turned out to be part of the lyrics of the song itself.
With “Rock Music”, Charli xcx changes the maximalist electronics and club rhythms of “Brat” for guitars and an energy closer to indie and alternative rock. The video clip, directed by Aidan Zamiriwas conceived while the song was still being recorded in Paris.
As the artist herself explained on her secondary Instagram account, the idea of the video and the song evolved simultaneously: “The ideas of the song influenced the video and those of the video influenced the song.”
Since the launch of “Brat”the artist has worked on the soundtrack of the new adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” directed by Emerald Fennell and has expanded its presence in film and television with different projects such as “Mother Mary”, “The Moment” or the series “Overcompensating”.
