Charli XCX loves Rihanna above all things except one

Charli XCX has undergone a fun test on TikTok in which she has to choose one artist – generally female – over another. As soon as she begins, the author of the excellent ‘brat’ knows that she is going to regret it and assures: “I’m so scared by all this!”

First up front, Charli XCX has to choose between two totems, Rihanna and Lady Gaga. Perhaps resentful because Lady Gaga didn’t say anything to her about the remix she made of ‘911’ with AG Cook, Charli chooses Rihanna.

From then on, the test becomes a succession of names that are indistinctly great, random, forgotten, indies or in bad times, and Charli XCX repeats Rihanna’s name over and over again. When she hears the name of her friend and tour partner Troye Sivan, Charli justifies: “I think Troye is going to understand that she chooses Rihanna.”

Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Lorde, Phoebe Bridgers, Lily Allen, Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles and Camila Cabello appear for the test. And curiously it is not Billie Eilish who makes Charli XCX hesitate the most, but Doja Cat (because she loves “her album” of hers) and Sabrina Carpenter (because she loves ‘Espresso’).

In the end, the interviewer comes up with a name that Charli XCX prefers over Rihanna: Sky Ferreira. In support of the artist, who has not been able to release her new music for 10 years due to disagreements with her label, Charli affirms that “Sky Ferreira is unique” (not like the others mentioned or the couple of boys mentioned).

In the pipeline, there are names as succulent as Beyoncé, Madonna, The Weeknd, Cher, Mariah Carey and Taylor Swift, who has just left ‘brat’ without number 1 in the United Kingdom.
