Charli xcx explains ‘brat’ to neophytes on SNL: “It’s not bad to be straight”

Charli xcx has been the star of Saturday Night Live this weekend: she has presented it and acted in the program.

In his monologue he explained the meaning of ‘brat’ for those who have not had a “brat summer”, encouraging neophytes: “there is nothing wrong with being straight.” He has joked about the more party-oriented British customs and by extension about the program’s schedule (“I don’t usually go out so early on Saturdays”) and also about the qualities of Autotune.

Afterwards, he performed two of the ‘brat’ songs. Going back to the album before the remixes with all kinds of superstars, the songs chosen were ‘360’ on a green background like the one on the album cover (attention to that Lou Reed t-shirt), and ‘Sympathy Is a Knife’. This last interpretation has been just as minimalist, only with a more disco-like set of lights, and with the word PARTY projected in the background.
