Chappell Roan was one of the stars of the MTV Video Music Awards. Not only did she take home one of the most coveted awards, Best New Artist, but she also gave us an iconic moment on the red carpet.
Before putting on his medieval knight’s armor and literally setting the stage on fire, Chappell Roan had it out with a photographer who allegedly told him to “shut the fuck up” during his walk down the red carpet. At least, that’s what can be heard in the video, although it’s not clear why. Roan’s instant response is clear: “You shut the fuck up!” “No! Not me, bitch,” he continued.
After the incident, Roan was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight to clarify what had happened: “It’s pretty overwhelming and scary. I think for someone who suffers a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrible,” he said.
At the awards ceremony, Taylor Swift was once again the most awarded artist, taking 7 astronauts from 12 nominations, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year and Song of the Summer. In doing so, she surpassed Beyoncé as the artist with the most wins in VMA history, with 30 in total, compared to 27 for ‘COWBOY CARTER’.
