Carla Lourdes is a singer-songwriter from Ponferrada who has only been active for a short time. Although Lourdes began composing songs at the age of 15, it was not until she was 24 that she decided to share them. Since then, Lourdes has given dozens of concerts and, for example, in 2022 she was one of the artists confirmed on the Planeta Sound lineup.
It was that year that Carla Lourdes’ first EP, ‘El Quiero de las Flores’, was released. Previously, the 2021 single ‘Without instructions’ had put a singer-songwriter attached to a formulaic and classic pop-rock sound on the map, in the style of Vega or Coque Malla. In ‘Papel para Almodóvar’, Lourdes sang about “trains from Madrid” and “newspapers of yesterday”, in memory of a past love.
For a few years, Carla Lourdes has been preparing her debut album, which will be released in 2025 through Esmerarte, the label of Xoel López, Baiuca or the recommended Soleado. ‘Equilibrio’ is the first preview and represents a decisive step forward in the career of the artist from Bercia.
‘Equilibrio’ has nothing to do with the good gypsy jazz vibe of ‘Si Es Contigo’, actually Carla Lourdes’ most listened to song to date. ‘Equilibrio’ will be able to surpass it with a style of pure pop-indie that recalls the most luminous moments of Miss Caffeina, Lori Meyers or the first Zahara in its combination of lively rhythm, acoustic guitars and keyboards. It’s the Song of the Day for today, Thursday.
Although the optimism that has marked Carla Lourdes’ career is still present in ‘Equilibrio’, a song that is about not feeling enough or judging yourself too much. Lourdes sees the human experience as “pure learning to survive”, but the best thing about ‘Equilibrio’ is its narrative evolution: the song goes from vital disorientation to reunion. Therefore, in the joyful coda, Lourdes sings that she has “found” what she “has needed” so much.
