Calequi and Lantras is one of the best current Latin bands. His 2023 album, ‘rich mixture’, is a gear of cheerful rhythms and vibrant instrumentation that does not give up electronic experimentation or collaborations of stars such as Jorge Drexler, Lido pepper or Xoel López. Songs like ‘Ke Ke’ or ‘The Tica Time’ overflow creativity. The twelve songs of ‘rich mix’ pay tribute to twelve cities of America and their musical culture, hence the sound wealth of the album.
The connection with Drexler is essential to understand the formation of Calequi and the Panthers, since his vocalist Javier Calequi is an artistic director of Uruguayan. The trio, also made up of Lauri Revuelta and Luisa Corral, puts the boots in ‘rich mix’ mixing funk, Afropop and Caribbean or tropical rhythms such as cumbia or champeta, insufflating life and color to trumpets, percussions or synthesizers. The title of ‘rich mix’ comes to the album that neither painted.
It is no mystery that Calequi and the panthers have earned a great reputation as a direct band, and their concerts are reputed to be fun and explosives, exactly with their music. In Spain, the Tour of Calequi and the 2025 panthers will take place between the months of April and May by turning rooms with dates distributed in Seville, Granada, A Coruña, Ponferrada, Cáceres, Zaragoza and Huesca. The last single of Calequi and Las Panteras, oblivious to his album, has been the autotuned ‘The Candombe de Mars’.
