The seventh edition of Cabo de Pop, a festival organized by Plan Out and the Cartagena City Council that will take place on August 16 and 17 andIn the privileged enclave of Cabo de Palos lighthousewill once again bring together this year some of the most acclaimed national artists from the underground pop, rock and electronic scene, as well as a good number of the most promising emerging artists from the Region of Murcia. In addition to the musical performances, the multidisciplinary festival of a sustainable nature is consolidating itself as one of the most faithful musical events to its love affair with art and culture, offering a wide range of sporting activities for the whole family, gastronomy, guided tours of the most emblematic places in the area, an exclusive market of artists from the Region, and workshops and talks aimed at promoting the protection of the environment.
Following the successful formula of its previous editions, Cape Pop is once again betting on quality live music and free concerts. This year, its line-up includes renowned groups as acclaimed as Murcia’s Dogthe acid punk-pop of Aiko the group, and the avant-garde post punk and rock of The Yolosamong others. Without forgetting national revelations such as the synth pop of Sofiathe Catalans Platform or the Madrid ones Petunias. As a speaker for emerging art in the Region of Murcia, Cabo de Pop will take to the stage: the sharp guitars, fun lyrics and cheerful punk pop and power pop rhythms of Pedriñanes 77; indie-rock and lo-fi pop from the most promising musical duo of recent years, Pau From Marc; and a selection of the best-known and most experienced DJs in the region, such as Disappear, Strasbourg 1518 either Coastal DJ.
Presentation Party
Previously, Cabo de Pop will offer a brief but juicy appetizer of the festival with the celebration of a “pre-party” which will take place in the Bocana of PalosThursday August 8th, from 19:00 to 21:00, and in which gifts and invitations to participate in some of the sporting activities included in the event’s programme will be raffled off. For the occasion, the organisation has decided to entrust the musical show to Casino Social Cluba multidisciplinary artistic collective born within the Casino of Cartagena that, a few months after its creation, has become a spokesperson for the most talented artists in the area. Its participation in the presentation party of Cabo de Pop, with the performance of some of its most popular music selectors, reveals the commitment of both entities to artists and new art creators from the Region of Murcia.
Sport and environment as part of the show
Although music is its main attraction, the privileged location in which Cabo de Pop is held allows the event to offer a new concept of festival that combines the musical offering with the promotion of sporting activities, plans for the whole family and the care of Nature. In this way, the festival continues, since its beginning in 2016, with the firm commitment to promote the protection of the environment and give visibility to the region’s tourist products with the aim of promoting job creation, stimulating the formation of new companies, contributing to the enhancement of local heritage and generating wealth for the territory.
Dedicating this seventh edition to Mar Menorand with the collaboration of the Association of Naturalists of the Southeast (ANSE), Cabo de Pop has developed a program of outdoor activities focused on learning about the Murcian lagoon and its care, such as talks about the Mar Menor and its surroundings, the recovery of salt-producing activity in the Salinas de Marchamalo and visits to the site, children’s salt painting workshops, a thematic gymkhana for the little ones, and a dynamic colloquium for young people about salt flats, salt and biodiversity.
In addition to its contribution to the environmental education of attendees, Cabo de Pop will also host all kinds of sports and family leisure activities such as kayaking, surfing, sailing, snorkelling and diving, with the aim of promoting sport and healthy living among young people, and the leisure offer that the area has to offer. Guided tours of the interior of the lighthouse, a craft market and the wide range of gastronomic options offered by an area with various food trucks complete the Cabo de Pop programme.
