Marina has released her new single, ‘Butterfly’. Today the new era of Marina Diamandis opens, four years after the launch of ‘Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land’ (2021).
Fragments of the chorus of ‘Butterfly’ had been heard in recent days by Tiktok, revealing an electropop sound and a chorus of children’s cutting, almost kawaii.
That is exactly what ‘Butterfly’ offers, a light electronic pop production like a “butterfly” that serves Marina to express its vital fullness. In ‘Butterfly’, Marina gets rid of bad vibes and seeks “shine like a star.” The chorus will seem mono or “Annoying”, but it is catchy, and the song returns to Marina an excuse to vent its usual operatic songs. ‘Butterfly’ is 100% marina, but not desperately: it’s your best single in years.
The ‘Butterfly’ video clip, which opens at 17.00, will show Marina posing inside a luxurious room and vintage style, carrying black girdle and red heels. The video has been directed by Aerin Moreno, director of the ‘Greedy’ visuals of Tate McRAe or ‘Push 2 Start’ of Tyla.
‘Butterfly’ will be part of an album that will be “very fun,” in the words of Marina Diamandis. His second album, ‘Electra Heart’ (2012), has just been named one of the 500 best albums of the 21st century by Rolling Stone.
