Body Countthe metal band led by rapper Ice-Tshares a new preview of his upcoming album. And it is nothing less than a version of Pink Floyd to which they have invited the very same David Gilmour to accompany them.
Next November 22nd it will be on the street “Merciless”which will be the new work of the metal band Body Count. So far, so normal. What we could not expect –although in reality it is a song that they have already performed in concert, as can be seen below these lines– is that Ice-T’s men were going to release as a single in advance a version of the classic “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd with new lyrics signed by Ice-T and with the guitarist and singer of the British band himself, David Gilmour, as a luxury guitarist.
For Ice-T, “Comfortably Numb” is “an introspective song, where I acknowledge that I’m older now. I’m telling the younger generation that they have two choices: keep the fire burning or give up. I’m trying to make sense of what’s going on, but also point out that we’re in a place where we don’t have to deal with reality. We have flat-screen TVs and popcorn, and we can sit back and watch the chaos of the world like it’s a TV show. It doesn’t seem real until it shows up on your doorstep. I’m a little numb, too, we all are.”
But beware, Gilmour has also had his say on the adaptation. Here are his words on the subject: “The version is quite radical, but the lyrics really struck me. I’m amazed that a song I wrote almost fifty years ago has come back with this new approach. They’ve brought it back into the mainstream. Ice-T first contacted me to ask for permission to use the song, but I didn’t think he’d offer to play it for me as well. I like the new lyrics, they talk about the world we live in now, which is quite scary. Ice-T and Body Count recently played in London, unfortunately I couldn’t go, but if another opportunity to play with them came up, I’d jump at it.”
