Björk told El Guincho that she was a “producer” and not an “artist”

El Guincho, a well-known producer of artists such as Rosalía, Charli In an interview with Billboard, the canary has revealed that Björk was the person who opened his eyes and told him: “You are a producer.”

Pablo Díaz-Reixa tells in the conversation with the American media what was the gig that changed his life (in an underground club in Madrid), the “strange” music he made in his beginnings in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, how he met Rosalía and, of course, how she came to work with all the cool girls in pop. One of the best stories is the one involving Björk.

El Guincho says that after releasing his third album, he received a call from the Icelandic artist to work on ‘Biophilia’. He recounts what happened in the sessions as something that left him stunned: “I remember him telling me, ‘You’re a producer,'” he says. However, he did not think the same, since he saw himself as “an artist.” Díaz-Reixa says that after her mother passed away and she paused her career for several years, she realized that Björk was right.

«What she said made sense, because the part I have always enjoyed the most is making songs. “I like concerts and connection, but my true vocation is to spend as much time as possible in the studio and as little time as possible on the other duties of an artist,” he says. There comes ‘Hiperasia’ (2016), which according to him served as “a kind of school” to know the type of producer he wanted to be. The rest is history.
