It doesn’t seem like Billy Corgan has been taking things very calmly lately both with The Smashing Pumpkins as with other projects. In fact, he just surprised us with the news that he will be releasing two albums of rarities from Zwan.
Zwan was a group that could be said to be ephemeral that was created in 2001 taking advantage of a break from The Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan organized a kind of alternative supergroup with his partner Jimmy Chamberlin, Paz Lenchantin (back in those days in A Perfect Circle), David Pajo (Slint, Papa M) and Matt Sweeney (Chavez, Current 93, etc.).
In 2003 the group published the album “Mary Star Of The Sea” to split shortly after with Corgan facing a new stage of The Smashing Pumpkins next. But the big surprise is that Corgan has announced that he is going to publish two albums of Zwan rarities, announcing that there are more than sixty unreleased songs from the project that have never seen the light of day.
The original idea was to publish a 20th anniversary box set in 2023, but things became complicated and the launch was left in limbo. Now, more than three years later, it seems that those songs can finally be heard. And, in Corgan’s words, these are not different versions of the songs, but rather they are different songs. Now it remains to be seen if exact deadlines are given for this new edition proposal.
Let us also remember that Billy Corgan will bring his show to Madrid “A Night of Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness”. After selling out tickets for next September 11, a second date was added on September 12, also at the Vistalegre Palace in Madrid.
