Billie Eilish, on coming out: "Wasn't it obvious?"

Billie Eilish is still competing for the Oscar; Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo fall

The 2024 Oscar nominations come with several surprises. In the main categories, Margot Robbie is left without a nomination after playing Barbie while Ryan Gosling does get it for his role as Ken. Greta Gerwing also stands out for her absence in Best Director. But in the musical field there are also notable absences.

While the very favorite Billie Eilish continues in the race for the Oscar with ‘What Was I Made For?’, her film partner Dua Lipa is not moving forward with her hit ‘Dance The Night’. On the other hand, also representing ‘Barbie’, Ryan Gosling will be up for the statuette with ‘I’m Just Ken’, which already won the Critics Choice.

A nominee who can make a splash is Jon Batiste, who will fight for the award with ‘It Never Went Away’, the song for the film ‘American Symphony’. The fourth slot goes to the unexpected ‘Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)’ from the film ‘The Moon Killers’. And the fifth and last a composition by Diane Warren, as usual. In this case, played by Becky G.

Olivia Rodrigo and her ‘Can’t Catch Me Now’ for the film ‘Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ fall short of the nomination. Likewise, Sharon Van Etten for ‘Quiet Eyes’ for ‘Past Lives’. Other artists who have to make do with the shortlist are Lenny Kravitz for ‘Road to Freedom’, Metro Boomin for ‘Am I Dreaming’, Jarvis Cocker for ‘Dear Alien (Who Art In Heaven)’ and Halle Bailey for ‘Keep It Movin’ ‘. Who will finally win the long-awaited Oscar?

Nominated for Best Original Song at the 2024 Oscars:
‘What Was I Made For?’ by Billie Eilish (‘Barbie’)
‘I’m Just Ken’ by Ryan Gosling (‘Barbie’)
‘It Never Went Away’ by Jon Batiste (‘American Symphony’)
‘Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)’ by Osage Tribal Singers (‘The Moon Killers’)
‘The Fire Inside’ by Diane Warren (‘Flaming Hot’)
