Billie Eilish disappoints fans with ‘Birds of a Feather’ video

Billie Eilish has released the video for ‘Birds of a Feather’, the song that is on its way to becoming the biggest hit of her entire career. In a few months it has surpassed one billion streams on Spotify, and in less time than expected it will also surpass the streams of its most played song, ‘lovely’ with Khalid, which exceeds 2 billion.

At various points during the year at number 1 overall, ‘Birds of a Feather’ remains at number 3, above more recent singles by Sabrina Carpenter or Jimin, many months after the release of ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’, and certified with several Platinum Records in many countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom. It is also a Gold Record in Spain.

For this reason, Billie Eilish fans were probably expecting a video clip that lived up to or, rather, in line with their expectations, but that is not what they found. Directed by Aidan Zamiri, who most recently featured Eilish in the ‘Guess’ video with Charli xcx, the ‘Birds of a Feather’ video shows Eilish alone inside an empty office, being swept away by unseen forces. Close-ups of his face and a sense of surrealism abound.

Although the video for ‘Birds of a Feather’ symbolically evokes the feelings of Billie Eilish expressed in the lyrics of the song, which speaks of an unrequited love that leads the singer to a state of obsession, fans of the singer are disappointed and one of them has let Aidan Zamiri know, meeting with his response.

Aidan, much more respectful than this fan who opens up to him on Instagram to tell him that the video he created “is shit”, answers with a lot of know-how: “I feel bad that you feel this way, Billie and I love it.” the video, but we understand that other people do not share the same opinion. Aidan notes that “at least we agree that the song is beautiful.”

‘Birds of a Feather’, with its magical and free sound, may have asked for an outdoor video, a blockbuster on par with its success. But Billie and Aidan have aimed to offer something different and surprising, not predictable, a video that is much more psychological than simply beautiful, and that probably contains more layers than some of their fans want to see.
