Beny Jr and El Guincho create a sad bop for hard hearts

Beny Jr, the Barcelona rapper, especially known in Spain for his hit ‘Luna fille’ or for his various collaborations with Morad, such as ‘Sigue’ or ‘Lo que tiene’, has released a new album at the end of 2025. ‘SAMURAI II’ is the second part of his 2021 album with El Guincho, ‘SAMURAI’, and a new example of the chemistry between the two.

In ‘Samurai II – Jack’, for example, the hand of that producer who created the visionary ‘Caprisongs’ (2022) with FKA twigs is clearly perceived, while other tracks like ‘Lluvia de Estrellas’ show an influence from the more Caribbean Drake. Beny Jr, as the main name, brings sensitive melodies, lyrics attached to the street and a vision that looks beyond convention. This is how Beny describes the album: «Sometimes I’m good, sometimes I’m bad, and sometimes I’m just a super boring boy who curiously gets a lot of the things he says right and he’s a little intelligent but he’s lazy but he says he doesn’t have feelings but he really dies for three things, God, his mother (family) and Palestine. Everything else is superficial and temporary.

‘SAMURAI II’ also offers a handful of potential hits that we will soon see installed on the Spanish singles chart. Although today’s official focus track is ‘Samurai II – Jack’, we’re betting on ‘Elixir Kadupul’ as Song Of The Day.

‘Elixir Kadupul’ is one of those tracks from ‘SAMURAI II’ that refers to the Drake of a few years ago. Specifically, the song sounds as if ‘Passionfruit’ had a merengue beat added to it. In other words, ‘Elixir Kadupul’ moves with the urgency of that Latin rhythm, but the atmosphere transmits, rather, a depressive state or deep melancholy.

Beny Jr, in ‘Elixir Kadupul’, is identifying with this flower known for its rarity and almost inaccessible character. This flower blooms only for a few hours during the night and withers before dawn, thus symbolizing ephemeral beauty.

In the song, Beny Jr recognizes himself as incapable of love (“Cure my heart if you want, but I have no feelings”) and insists on his rejection of fame (“I step from being famous”), although the main recipient of the song is a girl with whom he establishes a relationship that is more sexual (“I make her scream”) than emotional, always maintaining an unstable bond (“I usually disappear from her life”). Like the kadupul flower, Beny Jr blooms at night, when no one sees it.
