Last weekend the final of the band contest was held at the Social Antzokia in Basauri Rockin with the performances of the six finalists in the Principal and Hego Uribe categories.
On Saturday the final of the twelfth edition of the Rockein band competition was held in Basauri. The day started at noon in Marieneathe Basauri Women’s House, with a talk about women and the music industry, with the presence of Nara Pintopromoter at the prestigious Primavera Sound festival, and Maite Alañadirector of MAZ Basauri and Rockein.
At 9 p.m. the final of this musical competition aimed at soloists and bands from the Basque Autonomous Community and Navarra began, organized by the Basauri City Council (you can see the streaming at the bottom). In this new edition, 195 artists had registered, marking a new participation record for the ninth consecutive year. The multidisciplinary artist from Bilbao participated/performed in the main category. Ben Santana (trap, rap, hip-hop), finalist also in 2023; the duo Edgar Allan Popcomposed by Beatriz Álvaro from Alava and Jaime Buenaventura from Madrid; and Galderthe solo debut of Galder Izagirre from Irunda, drummer for leading Basque rock bands such as Berri Txarrak, Kuraia and Dut. The award for that category finally went to Ben Santana.
In the Hego Uribe category, aimed at projects with at least one member registered in Basauri, Arrigorriaga, Etxebarri, Galdakao, Ugao-Miraballes, Usansolo or Zaratamo, they participated/performed The Empty Fridgea pop-rock quartet that includes a member of Etxebarri; the young Basaurian Maialen Ibarrawho recently presented his first EP ‘Nire egia zuen ezpainetan’; and Monday Potionsa project with Eneko Peña at the helm and members from Etxebarri, Bilbao and Santurtzi, which is reactivated in quartet format and with an eclectic musical proposal that ranges from baroque pop to art rock. And the prize went to the quartet Monday potions. Besides, Edgar Allan Pop won the Eskarabillera award, and Maialen Ibarra the award for Best Artist in Basque.
