Just a few months after the launch of ‘Chato’, Barry B has returned with new single, one of the best of his career. It is the song of the day.
‘Badly calibrated childhood’ is another song by Barry B influenced by the Anglo-Saxon pop-rock. This time, the sound refers to the proposal of groups such as Editors or Interpol, who have so well known to carry their existential despair at the scale of sand and stadiums. The melody of ‘badly calibrated childhood’ lends itself to the collective choir and reminds the hymns that is being able to sign Fontaines DC.
But, regardless of references and influences, ‘badly calibrated childhood’ is a very personal and even biographical piece of Barry B, in which the artist remembers his own childhood, marked by a continuous search for his identity. The lyrics expose images of a “traumatized look”, of the “soul of an unhappy” and a “broken soldier” that seeks relief in love. Although that relief lasts a second, for Barry B, it is the closest thing to live “eternity.”
