Manic Street Preachers and The Flaming Lipsreviewing their most emblematic album, lead the first batch of confirmations for the 23rd edition of the Azkena Rock Festivalwhich will take place from June 19 to 21.
The Basque capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, will once again become the epicenter of the Rock from June 19 to 21 in Mendizabala. We have just found out the first 22 names that will make up the poster, which will once again bring together a powerful cast of artists from different generations and styles but always with Rock as their banner.
Among the first big names of this first batch are the Welsh Manic Street Preachers who will present their fifteenth album exclusively in the state, “Critical Thinking”; the Americans The Flaming Lipsperforming their iconic and revered album “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots”which turns 20; the American Lucinda Williamswhose fusion of folk, rock and country has resonated with generations of listeners and two revered shows in the festival’s history; either Melissa Etheridgewhich returns after several decades without setting foot in the country.
Others that will also be in this new edition, and that show the variety of the festival, will be Richard Hawley, Reckless Kelly, PIL, Turbonegro, The Hellacopters, Buzzcocks, Diamond Dogs & Chris Spedding, Quique González, Dead Kennedys, The Chesterfield Kings, Robert Jon & The Wreck, Masters of Reality, La Estrella Azul, Derby Motoreta’s Burrito Kachimba and Psilicon Flesh. There will be no shortage of Basque bands, with the presence of Kaotiko, Ezezez and Free.
Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, November 20 at 10 a.m. at the festival website at a promotional price. Those attending previous editions will be able to access an exclusive pre-sale starting tomorrow, Friday, at a special price. In addition to the vouchers for the 3 days of the festival, you can also purchase the Gaztea Bonus (€100 + expenses) for those under 23 years of age, and, as a novelty this year, the Cuadrilla Bonus is activated, a nod to these groups of friends and friends who are so regular at ARF and for which they will receive 6 bonuses for the purchase of 5. One more year, the installment purchase will be available both in the pre-sale and in the general sale and as always, access will be free for those under 14 years of age. The festival will also have, once again, organized bus trips that take you to the festival gate from nearby towns such as Bilbao, Pamplona, Donostia/San Sebastián, Zarautz, Arrasate and Alsasua.
