Azealia Banks insults Madonna: “Worship must stop”

In the midst of promoting her new album, ‘143’, Katy Perry has made a statement that has turned out to be more controversial than expected. Specifically, he has praised Madonna, highlighting her influence on the music industry, especially on female singers. He has said: «(Madonna) is the greatest. She has paved the way. When I talk to younger artists, I tell them that every female singer should continue to thank Madonna because she continues to break down barriers. “I’m 40 years old and I can continue dedicating myself to music thanks to Madonna.”

Katy Perry’s words, which few would doubt, have been met with opposition from Azealia Banks, always willing to give the opposite opinion, while her second album still hasn’t arrived. Not so many months ago Azealia attacked Lorde, and now Madonna is in her target.

In a first message, Azealia lists a list of artists who “owe nothing” to Madonna, among whom are Grace Jones, Björk, Céline Dion, Missy Elliott or Janet Jackson. He also mentions Lil’ Kim, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Eve, Toni Braxton, Eve and a certain “Spice” who is unknown if she is Ice Spice or dancehall singer Spice. Curiously, Azealia includes Beyoncé on her list, even though Beyoncé has always been very sincere about her admiration for Madonna, to the point that both have released a remix of ‘Vogue’ and ‘Break My Soul’.

Banks’ initial message has been shared and liked thousands of times, many have questioned her words and Azealia wanted to reaffirm herself in a couple of messages in which she points out that Madonna is not among her influences. And be careful because he also distributes some insults, in his style.

«I can say that I have never, at any time in my life, been influenced or inspired by Madonna. I know three of his songs and not on purpose. I don’t understand the enthusiasm, I have been much more influenced by Beyoncé, Janet Jackson and Chaka Khan, much more than Madonna,” says Azealia Banks in a first tweet. Banks then goes for the jugular and, alluding to Madonna’s “dry white pussy,” specifically her “crunchy old white coochie,” declares that the adoration of the ‘Music’ author must stop. «I’m sorry but we can’t continue worshiping (Madonna). Someone has to say it. “Madonna has never given what you think she has given.” In his opinion, the Queen of Pop is another: “Janet Jackson is the real queen of pop, so go argue with your mother.” He agrees with Lizzo on that.

Although Katy Perry probably did not predict that her words about Madonna were going to provoke Azealia Banks’ reaction, the truth is that Azealia is an expert at being contrary, as she has even stated things like “Rita Ora sings better than Adele.” Of course, Azealia has praised Katy Perry even though Katy neither knows it nor cares: she says that the ‘Prism’ singer is a “great singer.” They are both united by having worked with Dr. Luke, in addition to their passion for 90s samples, specifically Crystal Waters.
