Ark, arachnid in ‘whore’, makes peace with sevdalizes

Arca has launched these double single days, ‘whore’ and ‘alone’, two sides of the same currency. Since the launch of the last of the five albums he published in 2021, encompassed under the title of ‘Kick’, the Venezuelan Alejandra Ghersi did not publish new material completely alone. His last work, until now, had been a remix of Electricity ‘by Hikaru Utada.

In this double face A, Arca gets ‘whore’ and then in ‘Sola’, he shows his vulnerable side. Today we chose the first as a song of the day.

‘Puta’ is another of those ark productions that dynamite reggaeton from within. In this case, suffocating this rhythm with gusts of industrial distortion. There is so much noise in ‘whore’ that the song could appear in the book on the noise of Oriol Rosell. This noise, and its brief incursion into the Colombian champeta, turns ‘whore’ into an addictive drug that sticks as much as a web on the wall. Arca dominates both ‘whore’ that it becomes an integrated element within the sound assembly. All this serves Ghersi to express an outburst of lust “high femme” while boasting acrylic nails and heels and surrenders to sexual satisfaction.

‘Solo’, on the other hand, softens the proposal of the first clue and appropriates a tropical pop sound that refers to fashion 2017-2018. This time, Ghersi expresses his feeling of loneliness for a love that has become disappointment. The tenderness of the sound accompanies that of a letter that rhymes “I have left ‘blinding for love” with “I hope not to regret my peach heart.”

The launch of ‘Puta’ and ‘Solo’ has coincided with a brief confrontation between Ark and Sevdalizes, caused by the aesthetic similarities between the ‘heroin’ video clip, of Sevdalizes, and Ghersi’s visual work. Both have made peace in networks. Sevdaliza has expressed that Arca and she are “allies” and stressed the cultural importance of Arca’s music, especially within the Trans and Latin communities. Arca has given the reason to Sevdaaliza: «Sometimes, as divas, we need to feel that we are the creative source to demonstrate our worth and our talent. But there is no need to compete, and each one does things in their own way.
