Ariana Grande, top 1 on Spotify globally with ‘yes, and?’

Ariana Grande has gone straight to global number 1 on Spotify with ‘yes, and?’, her new single. ‘Si y?’ It has debuted at number 1 in Spotify’s global top 50 with 11.2 million views. It is the best debut of Ariana’s entire career on Spotify globally, which is saying a lot, since ‘7 rings’ managed to register 8.5 million streams during its first day of counting in 2019, and ‘positions ‘ 7.6 million in 2021. Ariana’s second best debut on Spotify global is the remix of ‘Die for You’ by The Weeknd, in which she participates as a guest artist: this totals 8.9 million.

There has never been so much expectation for an Ariana Grande single. The turning point in Grande’s career occurred in 2019 with the premiere of the single ‘thank u, next’, which gave Ariana the best historical debut of her career at that time with 6.2 million views recorded during the first day, which today seem few compared to those of ‘yes, and?’. Since the release of ‘thank u, next’, several Ariana singles have made big debuts on Spotify’s global chart. They are the following:
1.- yes, and?: 11.21 million
2.- Die For You (Remix): 8.9 million
3.- 7 rings: 8.5 million
4.- positions: 7.6 million
5.- break up with your girlfriend, I’m bored — 7.5 million

As for the best debuts in history on Spotify globally, Adele holds the record thanks to the almost 20 million views obtained by ‘Easy on Me’ on its first day of release; Taylor Swift places up to four songs from ‘Midnights’ (2022) within the top 10 and, also only in the top ten positions, the Bizarrap and Shakira session is the only one performed in Spanish.

It should be noted that many of the songs that have accumulated the most during a single day are Christmas songs. The most listened to song in a day on Spotify is ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ by Mariah Carey, on Christmas Day.

If you remembered that Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ was among the best debuts in history, not really: ‘Flowers’ scored 7.7 million views on the first day of release. ‘Flowers’ achieved 18 million streams in one day, but not on its release day, January 13, but a week later, on January 20. ‘Flowers’ is, therefore, the second most listened to song in a single day in the history of Spotify that is not Christmas, behind ‘Easy on Me’, but it does not sneak into the top ten debuts.

1.- Easy on Me: 19,749,704
2.- Anti-Hero: 17,390,253
3.- Lavender Haze: 16,419,161
4.- As it Was: 16,103,849
5.- Seven: 15,995,378
6.- Snow on the Beach: 15,030,183
7.- Maroon: 14,422,463
8.- Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53: 14,393,342
9.- Drivers License: 13,714,177
10.- You’re On Your Own, Kid: 12,842,734

‘Si y?’ It is the first preview of his seventh studio album. It is rumored that the album is titled ‘Eternal Sunshine’ because the coordinates that appear in the first seconds of the video for ‘yes, and?’ They head to Montauk, New York, one of the locations featured in the 2004 film ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’, in Spain known as ‘Forget Me’. Ariana has been a fan of Jim Carrey since childhood. For her part, the video clip for ‘yes, and?’ pays tribute to Paula Abdul’s ‘Cold Hearted’. In the last hours, Grande and Abdul they have exchanged messages of mutual admiration on social networks following the premiere of the video clip.

Lastly, speaking of Ariana’s colleague The Weeknd, ‘Blinding Lights’ just became the first song in Spotify history to surpass 4 billion streams. The next one that will achieve it, soon, is ‘Shape of You’ by Ed Sheeran.
