Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo star in the trailer for ‘Wicked’

Ariana Grande was one of the many stars present at the LVIII edition of Super Bowl. She did it through the stands, but also through the small screen. The artist was, along with Cynthia Erivo, the protagonist of the first trailer for ‘Wicked’.

The film, an adaptation of the famous Broadway musical based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, is set in the Oz universe before Dorothy arrives from Kansas. Glinda, known as the Good Witch of the South, is played by Ariana Grande. Cynthia Erivo, for her part, will become Elphaba, known as the Wicked Witch of the West. The film version is expected to expand on the plot of the original Broadway production, which won three Tony Awards and a Grammy.

The cast is completed by Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, the imposing principal of Shiz University; Jonathan Bailey (The Bridgertons, Road Companions) playing Fiyero, a carefree and scoundrel prince; Ariana Grande’s boyfriend and Tony nominee Ethan Slater (the Broadway musical SpongeBob SquarePants) as Boq, an altruistic munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her big screen debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s beloved sister; and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum transformed into the legendary Wizard of Oz. j

Directed by Jon M. Chu, ‘Wicked’ is a film that will be released in two parts. The first installment will hit theaters on November 27, 2024, while the second will hit theaters on November 26, 2025.
