Billboard reports interesting developments this week on the United States singles chart, the Billboard Hot 100. Specifically, both ‘Santa Tell Me’ by Ariana Grande and ‘Underneath the Tree’ by Kelly Clarkson break into the top 10 of the list . ‘Santa Tell Me’ rises to 9, and ‘Underneath the Tree’ rises to 10.
This means that, for the first time, two Christmas songs released during the 21st century enter the top 10 of the American singles chart. ‘Santa Tell Me’ was released in 2014, and ‘Underneath the Tree’ in 2013.
Grande has celebrated the success of ‘Santa Tell Me’ by releasing a live performance of the song recorded for the occasion. Grande’s Christmas carol, a fan favorite since its release, already exceeds one billion views on Spotify.
The top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 is completely invaded by Christmas songs, except for ‘Die with a Smile’ by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, which remains at number 6.
In addition, Mariah Carey extends her stay at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ for another week, adding 17 in total. Mariah surpasses herself, as her record was held by the 16 weeks of ‘One Sweet Day’ with Boyz II Men. This 2024, Carey now has three consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard.
