Anna Calvi announces her return with a cover of Bonnie Prince Billy’s “I See A Darkness,” a haunting duet she performs with Genius Perfume
After selling out the tickets for his concert at the Earth Theater of London. Anna Calvi releases his new single “I See A Darkness”. A version of the theme Bonnie “Prince” Billy which he has performed alongside Genius Perfume. A song that talks about intimacy beyond romance. In fact, among the different versions of the song, the one recorded by Johnny Cash in his last stage also stands out.
The video, directed by Alexander Brownshows the intimacy of friendship during a night out, in which a moment between two friends is remembered over and over again. Furthermore, it shows the subtle rebellion that is needed for two women to enjoy a free and happy evening. Without letting any stranger disturb the beauty of their bond. With “I See A Darkness” and what will come after, Anna Calvi shows his desire to delve a little deeper into the human condition.
The reappearance of Calvi has been long awaited. This is his first musical work since he contributed his characteristic atmospheric ambience and visceral guitar to the soundtrack of “Peaky Blinders”. The artist has also recently launched her own Substack, titled “Carving Silver In Strange Weather”. There he will share unreleased songs and instrumentals, playlists and unreleased live performances.
