Almost four years after throwing ‘Paraíso’ (2022), one of his best songs, although practically no one will find out, Ana Torroja returns with ‘The show’ is over, the first single from a new album that will publish in 2026.
If ‘Paraíso’ stood out for its Italo Disco style, ‘the show’ is over ‘commitment to a pop-rock sound with openly eighties keyboards. In the first chords he remembers ‘Good Luck, Babe’ by Chappell Roan, but then the guitars are imposed.
‘The show’ has ended ‘together again with Torroja with young talents, in this case, Gomz (your song’ by Amaia and Alfred) and Liam Garner (‘Ping Pong’ by Chanel and Petazeta). The sound is not modern and the melody is not as good as that of ‘Smile’, but the song is efficient, and from that single of 2010 it recovers its positive and bright spirit.
It might not have been so. ‘The show is over’ is after all a negative title, and the song is born from a concern of Torroja: I thought it had only to say in music. «I thought I had nothing more to say, that it was time to say goodbye. But writing this song helped me open a new chapter, ”he said in the country.
‘The show is over’ is a direct dialogue of Torroja with music itself, or with inspiration. “Do not leave me, do not leave me without a song / let’s make an attempt more / we may still have something to tell,” Torroja begs. “If there are no words in the end / we are going and I don’t imagine one more ballad without you.” Rather, this is a ‘welcome to the show’.
