At a particularly difficult commercial moment for her career, because Fangoria’s latest album, ‘La Verdad o la Imaginación’, has had a limited run on the charts, Alaska receives new news in the form of an academic distinction, as she is among the music figures who will receive special awards at the next Latin GRAMMYs gala to be held on November 12.
Alaska will be recognized as an icon of Spanish pop and for “her irreverent style and innovative spirit.” The official statement highlights that Alaska “has explored punk, pop and electronic music, building a unique and revolutionary career” and that she is “a key figure in the Movida Madrileña and the voice behind anthems such as “Who cares” and “Neither you nor anyone.” In addition, it indicates that Alaska “has remained current for decades thanks to its authenticity and constant reinvention” and that “it continues to be a symbol of freedom, creativity and expression within music in Spanish.”
In addition to Alaska, Francisco Céspedes, Lila Downs, Daniela Mercury and Chichí Peralta will receive the Musical Excellence Award; while Omar Alfanno will have the Board of Directors Award, as part of the 2026 Special Awards presentation.
The 27th annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will take place on Thursday, November 12, 2026 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ceremony will honor the best of Latin music released between June 1, 2025 and May 31, 2026.
