Alaska charges against Spain’s boycott of Eurovision: “It is exclusion”

The 70th edition of Eurovision will be held on May 12 at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, but it will do so without Spain. As announced last December, RTVE has decided to abandon the festival and not broadcast this edition due to the continuity of Israel in the contest while the genocide on Palestinian soil continues.

Among the voices that have commented on Spain’s boycott of Eurovision is Alaska. The former presenter of the Benidorm Fest spoke during an interview on La Hora Extra on Cadena SER, coinciding with the presentation of her new album with Fangoria, ‘The Truth or the Imagination’.

Alaska has regretted the Spanish withdrawal from its perspective as a follower of the contest. For her, Eurovision remains, above all, “a music festival”, and she has been opposed to any boycott or cultural exclusion, even if she may share the political or humanitarian reasons that drive them. “I don’t understand the boycott, it seems like a form of exclusion to me,” he stated.

When journalist Dani de la Fuente asks her if the “whitewashing” of a genocide or the exclusion of Russia from the contest, but not Israel, would not be sufficient reason to accept this boycott, Alaska responds categorically: “If you want to have a United Nations musical festival, do it, but for me it is a music festival.”

Even so, Alaska does welcome the fact that Benidorm Fest can survive independently as its own television format.
