Adele shines at the start of her residency in Munich

Adele has kicked off her exclusive concert series (or “residency”) in Munich, Germany, a total of 10 dates spanning from August 2nd to 31st. The stadium where Adele is performing in Munich has been designed and built especially for the occasion and is expected to hold around 74,000 people per night, of course from Germany and other parts of the world.

Adele’s planned concert for Munich is similar to her ‘Weekends with Adele’ show in Las Vegas, as it also includes “smoke, fire, confetti and fireworks” as well as “probably the largest video screen in history,” Billboard reports.

The Munich tracklist features some notable differences, for example, ‘Rolling in the Deep’ closes, instead of ‘Love is a Game’, and Adele brings back ‘Chasing Pavements’, her first single, which she had not sung live for 7 years. Another song rescued is ‘All I Ask’, a ballad co-written by Bruno Mars.

It’s amazing to see Adele sing ‘Love in the Dark’ – among other songs – accompanied by an orchestra, in front of many tens of thousands more people than can fit in Caesars Palace, and in the open air.

Although part of the show’s charm has once again been Adele’s humour and spontaneity. On the first date she crowned herself by describing the origin of ‘Someone Like You’: “I wrote it at the worst time in my life. I wish I had known that things were going to get worse.” And on the second date she interrupted the show to broadcast the women’s race at the Olympic Games.

It is worth remembering that Adele’s residency in Munich does not mean the end of her previous residency in Las Vegas, but rather a summer break.
