Perhaps confirming that it will be a continuation of their celebrated and award-winning debut, Alcalá Norte’s next album will be titled ‘Let’s leave it as it was’. ‘El endemoniao’ is their third single, after ‘The Called Pythagoreans’ and ‘El hombre planeta’, and once again combines the postpunk and poprock that have marked their discography.
According to the band, in ‘El endemoniao’ Alcalá Norte “portrays Federico Nietzsche in an outburst of paganism.” In the story, the German philosopher confronts the writer Stephan Zweig after he reveals in his Instagram stories a series of audios in which Nietzsche talks about Mediterranean life and confesses “not understanding favorably with Italians.”
The song transfers this imagery to verses about breaking ties, letting go of certainties and feeding on oneself, in very literary verses. “I do not believe in God, only in the Sun,” sings Nietzsche, who also does not seek “any light or charity,” but rather “only the flame that desiccates me, that captivates me, that destroys me.”
Musically, its postpunk and 80s rock influences may make you think of Sisters of Mercy (as demonstrated by the YouTube comments, which cite the song ‘Lucretia My Reflection’), although melodically ‘El endemoniao’ is another of those round anthems from Alcalá Norte, in the vein of ‘El hombre planeta’ or, before that, ‘La vidaaño’ and ‘La calle Elfo’.
The visuals that accompany the release star Nietzsche himself, recently arrived from Turin and characterized as Borat, for some reason, and are part of this imaginary created by the band around the philosopher.
Alcalá Norte will present ‘Let’s leave it as it was’ on February 20, 2027 at the Movistar Arena in Madrid, in the largest concert of its career to date. The album itself will arrive this fall.
