Sophia Stel finally makes herself heard, being the third of 11 siblings

When you’re one of 11 siblings, you’ll probably end up taking up music, if only to get someone to listen to you. Sophia Stel is a Canadian singer, producer and model who has scored an unlikely little TikTok hit with ‘I’ll Take It’. Born in Saanich, British Columbia and grew up in a large, religious family. Before dedicating herself to music she worked as a gardener, house painter and waitress, and is also passionate about skateboarding.

Stel released his first EP, ‘Object Permanence’, in 2024, the year he also opened for AG Cook. In 2025 ‘How to Win at Solitaire’ arrived, and this year she opened for Lorde and debuted as a model for Ann Demeulemeester. Now he is preparing his next album for A24 Music, the music division of the famous film and TV production company.

‘Molly in the Club’ shows her more ethereal side, with hazy melodies and a voice heavily processed by Auto-Tune. ‘I Do’, ‘Now I’ve Got a Lot You Know’ and also ‘Bitches Talk Shit’ have, on the other hand, a marked clubby vibe, with rave synths and rhythms that seem designed for the dance floor, but that still retain something very intimate and private.

‘I Do’ is the most recent single from their album and today’s Song Of The Day. “I felt electric in my jeans / What could be wrong with that,” sings Stel, before entering the catchy chorus, marked by desire and complicity and a production that evokes two-mile EDM. “You said I’m kinda cold hearted, wanna get started / Everyone’s parted, now it’s only you.”

That mix between the ethereal auto-tuned melodies, the catchy keyboard riffs and the, after all, pop construction is curious. ‘Now I’ve Got a Lot You Know’ is undoubtedly another song with which to approach his proposal, but ‘I Do’, in addition to the most recent, may also be the most accessible.
