Long live Belgrade They premiere “Menquitofla”, a new preview with a very special guest, none other than Alain Johannes (Queens Of The Stone Age, Eleven).
Combining flamenco airs (hence the title of the song, with the syllables changed) with their rock energy, the people from Córdoba combine their geographical roots and their emotional roots to give shape to the third preview of what will be “While the Guadalquivir flows and flows and flows” which will be published on October 23.
The participation of Alain Johannes himself, founder of Eleven and member of bands such as Queens Of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures or even the first Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as a collaborator with legends such as the late Chris Cornell, turns out to be the only one that we are going to find in the new work of Viva Belgrado, which provides even greater interest.
But let’s let the band itself tell us more details about the subject:
“‘Menquitofla’ continues the timid flirtation with flamenco that Viva Belgrado started in ‘Bellavista’ with ‘A necklace’ and in ‘Songbook of Heaven’ with ‘The Christ of the Lanterns’. Initially the song did not have any collaboration, but one night after dinner while we were recording at La Casamurada, Ricky Falkner and Jordi Mora began to fantasize about the idea of inviting Alain, who had once passed by there, because they felt that the harmony of the song somehow fit him. The truth is that we never thought he would even respond, but thanks to the mediation of Eli, the person who handles the studio booking, he not only accepted, but made everything incredibly easy and fast, taking the song to another level with the solo and the guitar arrangements that he sent us from his studio in Chile.”
“This song answers the question: what would Turnstile por bulerías sound like?” says Jordi Meya, director of RockZone. A description that captures the particular intersection of references that “Menquitofla” proposes: the physical energy of contemporary hardcore and the pulse of flamenco coexisting in the same structure.
