Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo have given a new interview this week in El País Semanal, the first they have done together since the announcement of their separation. This occurred during the production of his next film, ‘The Black Ball’, which will be released in theaters on September 25.
The couple of directors began by talking about the political content of their films, ensuring that “the social advances of the collective in Spain have been made thanks to the left and against the right” and that “we are not trying to downplay anything”: “Just because we take it to our field, to sexual and gender identity, does not mean that the film does not have a political and ideological value,” they commented.
At the same time, in the same interview they explained how the end of their romantic relationship has not come into conflict with their creative union, but rather “just the opposite”: “We have improved because before we were clouding our entire personal life with work and there was no room for growth. Now, when we go to work, we start working and that’s it,” Ambrossi said.
Both agree that their situation has improved a lot since the breakup, with Ambrossi ensuring that he loves Javier Calvo “from a healthier place” and he pointing out that now “there is more admiration and less competition.”
