The Bermeo festival completes the programming of its first edition with Paul Larrozea, Bengo, César Magán, Kilian Millares, Ben Yart and Aimarzwhich are added to the names previously announced.
On October 2 and 3, Bermeo (Bizkaia) will host the first edition of Xixili Festibalaa new musical event promoted by an independent group that will take place on the Cemetery esplanade, in an enclave with views of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve and the Cantabrian Sea. The festival was born with the intention of celebrating Basque culture and its artists, taking the sea, the coast and mythology as an essential part of its identity.
After a first round of confirmations made up of Iseo & Dodosound, Neomak, Belako, Supercremalleras, Olatz Salvador, Oibaf, Desaint and Ke Lepo & Felix Buff, Xixili Festibala now complete your poster with Bengo, Ben Yart and Aimarzalong with DJ sets from Paul Larrozea, César Magán and Kilian Millares. A program that combines established names from the Basque scene with emerging artists and local talent, alternating concerts by bands and electronic music proposals. Among these new additions, it also stands out Paul Larrozea Zuazoan artist from Bermeo who will have the opportunity to perform in his hometown.
The festival will have two stages and three different musical spaces. Kresala Gunea, located in the free access area, will concentrate the daytime performances and will remain open to the general public until 5:00 p.m. The second stage will be inside the paid venue and will change its identity depending on the time of the day: Itsas Soinua Gunea will be dedicated to band concerts, while Elektronikoa Gunea will host DJ sessions and proposals linked to electronic music.
The name of the festival pays tribute to Xixili, the sculpture of a lamia made by José Luis Butrón and installed in 1980 at the end of Lamerapunte, in the port of Bermeo. The initiative arose from a group of neighbors with the aim of perpetuating the legend of the Lamiaran lamias. Xixili has a woman’s torso, arms and head and, from the waist down, a fish tail topped with two webped legs, a characteristic that distinguishes lamias from mermaids in Basque mythology.
This connection with the local imagination extends to the entire identity of Xixili Festibalawhich takes the sea, the coast and the figure of Xixili himself as the common thread of a first edition that seeks to connect music, territory and Basque culture.
