The free Gipuzkoan independent music festival Phenomenon will return to Hondarribia on October 10 with four concerts and a DJ Set.
After celebrating its tenth anniversary last year with performances by Ebbot Lundberg, Black Rainbows and an impressive tribute band to Elliott Smithamong other groups (chronicle here), on October 10 the free festival organized by the Association will return Fenomena Kultur Elkartea with their usual select mix of bands from home and away.
This year’s lineup is made up of two international bands, one from the Canary Islands and one from the Basque Country, as well as a DJ: the Norwegians Motorpsycho They will be one of the great attractions of the day. With more than three decades of experience and a great discography behind them, the group formed around Bent Sæther and Hans Magnus Ryan is already an institution of European rock. Their music works like a huge mixer in which hard rock, psychedelia, stoner, progressive rock, pop and experimentation fit in, with songs that can go from three minutes to extensive instrumental developments. In 2025 they published the self-titled album “Motorpsycho”in addition to the soundtrack of “Ahsol Caravan”, and this same year they have continued to expand their discography with “The Gaia II Space Corps”.
From London they will arrive Dream Nailscurrently converted into a trio and with a sound that has evolved considerably from its origins linked to punk and the riot grrrl movement. Without abandoning that initial energy, the group has been opening its proposal towards alternative rock and pop, incorporating new textures and a more melodic and experimental approach. In February they published “You Wish”their third album, eleven songs produced together with Ali Chant in which they show precisely that evolution towards more introspective terrains without losing their punk roots.
YOU They will arrive from the Canary Islands with a proposal in which rock looks both at its own tradition and at popular roots and sounds. In their songs you can find echoes of that Spanish rock that in the eighties began to broaden its horizons by incorporating other music – with Radio Futura as an inevitable reference – although transferred to its own contemporary language.
The Basque representation will be carried out by the people of Bilbao SILITIAthe Bilbao duo led by Xabier Barrutia and Ibai Silicato, which has become one of the most unclassifiable proposals on the Euskal Herria scene. After debuting with “Partners in Crime” (2019), in 2021 they published “Agate”a second album in which they continued to shape a particular mix of rock, electronics, psychedelia and dance rhythms. Since then they have continued to take even further a proposal that they themselves have come to call “brioche-pop”, which includes alternative rock, funk, techno, experimentation and a great sense of humour, all accompanied by live performances that are as unpredictable as they are theatrical.
The day will end with the DJ set starting at 11 p.m. Tirayathe project of Venezuelan percussionist, DJ and producer Rafael Rodríguez, based in Madrid. After going through different bands on the Madrid underground circuit, he launched this project in 2020 as a vehicle to mix electronics and his background as a percussionist. Their sessions move between house, tech house, acid and techno, with an important presence of Afro-Latin and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. After publishing “Fresquísimo” and collaborating or remixing artists such as Baiuca, Zuaraz or Blanco Palamera, he has also become a regular at different clubs and parties on the Madrid scene.
