Coinciding with the start of his tour ‘Traveling around the world Tropitour’ in Chicago, Karol G has given his fans an unreleased song, ‘Matadora’, to which he has also granted the honor of closing the concerts of this tour that, we remember, will pass through Spain in 2027 with dates in Barcelona, Seville and Madrid.
‘Matadora’ is not the immediate hit that ‘If I Had Met You Before’ was. If that mega-success is the bar against which the current Karol G must be measured, ‘Matadora’ is quite far away. Rather, it falls into that group of songs that Carolina Giraldo is capable of writing like hotcakes, with her eyes closed.
Judeline’s participation is the most surprising aspect of the song, although ‘Matadora’ does not reach the subtle magic of ‘Zahara’ either. If it weren’t for the timid trumpets that run through the production, we would simply be facing a fairly conventional sexual reggaeton. Karol makes it funny by talking about a “nasty” encounter with her “fatty” ass, but ‘Matadora’ doesn’t look like it will become one of the essential titles in her repertoire.
The final section, which stands out for its predictable use of vocal chops, attempts to provide extra dynamism to a song that passes quite indifferently and that does not even reach two and a half minutes in length. Without the hook of his best reggaeton, ‘Matadora’ remains in the middle. Karol G has already proven to be a ‘BICHOTA’; like ‘Matadora’, on the other hand, he needs to finish the job.
