The hoax factory of social networks has splashed the Madrid influencer Marina Rivers. After participating in an advertising campaign to mark the 50 years of democracy in Spain, inspired by youth fashion, she has been involved in accusations of having collected “millions of euros” directly from the Government. In addition, he has received threats and insults on social networks, including the label “subnormal” by Alvise Pérez, a public representative.
Pedro Sánchez is also accused of “wasting” public money paying for clothes and influencers to put on sale an alleged brand of his own clothing. However, this statement is false, since the clothes that Marina Rivers and other influencers wear in the campaign are not for sale.
In a forceful statement, Rivers has clarified that she will receive remuneration for her work as a content creator within the campaign, but denies having received a single euro directly from the Government. He also criticizes the double standards of those who maintain that these supposed “millions of euros” could have been allocated to childhood cancer research, while ignoring that the publicity of the World Cup, the bullfights or the Pope’s visit to Spain are also financed with public money. Furthermore, she reminds those who accuse her of living off taxes that she also pays taxes, like any citizen.
Part of the confusion seems to be due to the fact that the campaign was recorded in the Congress of Deputies. However, the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory has explained that, “although the campaign uses the same language as a clothing brand, it is not,” and insists that the garments are not for sale and that only “a limited number of units have been produced” to be used throughout the year in “events and acts.”
Marina Rivers has also expressed herself along these lines in her statement, in which she claims not to believe the controversy generated by a campaign that she considered “white.” “I thought that everyone agreed with democracy, but I see that they don’t,” says the influencer, who emphasizes that “democracy is neither left nor right, it belongs to everyone.” In addition, he has announced that he will donate all the profits he obtains from the campaign to an organization yet to be decided and that he will publish the proof to prove it.
According to elDiario.es, the campaign “has not cost 14 million euros.” This figure corresponds to the total budget that the initiative has been allocated during this year, while the campaign itself “will not exceed 380,000 euros”, divided between production and the work of the content creators. Furthermore, their participation is not yet over, as the campaign continues.
