Conceived in homage to Gata Cattanaan essential figure of the genre and its connection as an expressive, poetic and political form, this contest will value the unpublished works presented not only for their creative originality or the quality of the lyrics and musical composition, but for the coherence they maintain with the values represented by the figure and work of the rapper, poet, political scientist and activist from Córdoba.
The reception of works will remain open until September 4 (11:59 p.m.) and they will be sent electronically to the mailbox: (email protected) with all the information required in the bases.
Among all the works presented, four finalist compositions will be selected and performed live in a final concert that will take place on October 30, 2026 at the University of Granada. The celebration of the final of the I SGAE Urban Gata Cattana Award will take place, precisely, in Classroom 1 of the University of Granada, an alternative space that embodies in itself the values of the rapper and that affects her relationship with the academic institution. This final is also part of the celebrations of the V Centennial of the University.
As a prelude, on September 21 at the Palacio de La Madraza, the UGR organizes a talk with Fran Checa, a specialist in the work of Gata Cattana from a literary perspective, and a listening session on female rap, two activities that are part of the Cultur_alh literature festival organized by Ana Gallego Cuiñas (Professor of Latin American Literature and former dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Culture of Granada).
