Eurovision adds Canada in 2027 in the middle of the audience crisis

The European Broadcasting Union has confirmed Canada’s entry into Eurovision from 2027, following its entry as a full member at the last General Assembly.

Public television CBC/Radio-Canada will debut at the festival in the Bulgarian edition, participating from the semi-finals and with the option of reaching the final if it qualifies. It is the first new country to join since Australia in 2015.

As Vertele reports, the decision comes in a context of falling audiences and crisis of the festival, which in 2026 lost 35 million viewers.

The situation of several public television stations that abandoned the contest also remains unresolved, including RTVE (Spain), the Netherlands, Ireland, Slovenia and Iceland, pending changes in Israel’s participation in future editions.
