Manuel Arjona, original member of Locomía, died this Wednesday at the age of 58 from unknown causes. This has been confirmed by sources close to the artist, according to El País.
The Spanish media reports that the artist “was painting” during the day, but when he went to bed “he didn’t get up anymore.” He is the fourth member of Locomía to die: in the summer of 2018 both Santos Blanco and Frank Romero died at the age of 46, while Frances Picas died in November 2023 at the age of 53.
Arjona came from a small town in Catalonia, Viladecans, when he arrived in Ibiza in the mid-80s. In this first stage of the group, which had hits like ‘Samba’, ‘Locomía’ or ‘Rumba’, Arjona’s companions were Gard Passchier and the brothers Luis and Xavier Font.
The original Locomía line-up broke up in 1992, but Arjona reunited with Xavier Font in 2007 to go on an international tour. In 2011, both held a casting to create a new formation of the group, which Ricky Arenas, Ferry Frías and Félix Montás ended up joining.
