Madonna and Charli XCX smoke the peace pipe… if they were fighting

Madonna and Charli XCX have met for the first time after having a little beef on social networks. It all started when Charli XCX said that the dance floor was dead, referring to the fact that her new album will be more rock. Many people on social media related the statement to Madonna’s ‘Confessions II’ campaign, which proposes the dance floor as a lifeline for “the dark times we live in.” Madonna even responded on Instagram that “if you felt like the dance floor was dead, maybe you weren’t listening to the right music.”

Charli XCX was forced to respond that she was just referring to her need to leave ‘BRAT’ behind. And he cited examples of dance music that he is really liking, like Slayyyter. Recently, we saw a post by Charli in which she shared ‘Hollywood’ by Madonna and she clicked “like.” ‘American Life’ is an obvious influence on the ‘SS26’ video. Reconciliation was brewing.

And it finally materialized yesterday during Paris Fashion Week. At the Yves Saint Laurent show, someone decided to seat Madonna and Charli

What’s more, at the Club Confessions that was organized last night in Paris, Charli XCX was seen in the DJ booth alongside Madonna, enjoying ‘Hung Up’ and other songs. This time, and unlike what happened in Los Angeles, no unreleased songs from ‘Confessions II’ were played.

One might wonder if this was a real beef, a misunderstanding, or a joke between friends. Madonna and Charli XCX share a label (Warner), strategy team (Special Offer) and music video directors (Torso). Madonna is undoubtedly drawing inspiration from the guerrilla marketing of the ‘BRAT’ era and Madonna has always been a recognized influence on Charli.

We remind you that we will analyze the entire ‘Confessions II’ era in a podcast with an audience at Sala El Sol on Wednesday, July 8. Tickets are on sale at DICE.
