Morreo, ‘Crazy for the rhythm’ in the most yeyé anthem of this summer

Mushroom Pillow will publish Morreo’s third album after the summer. The duo formed by Jose Carlos Luna and Germán Marchena, known for the influence of both the pop psychedelia of the 60s and 70s as well as a certain fondness for national folklore through Smash, published a few weeks ago the introduction to the album, ‘Bienvenidos’. 2 and a half minutes of uptempo presentation and crazy synths to enter the new era.

Today JENESAISPOP releases the video for the true first single, ‘Locos por el rhythm’, which they recognize as their “most yeyé song to date.” Just because of all the melodic changes in its chorus it deserves to be the Song of the Day.

‘Crazy for the rhythm’ is recognized as inspired by ‘1, 2, 3, to the English hideout’ by Iván Zulueta, since its plot is very similar to the narrative of the song. They explain: «Beyond the cinephile reference, this song is a reminder to ourselves not to get lost. Neither our essence nor our style. At some point we felt like we were moving away from that, and we were clear that we needed to recover our sound and our way of seeing music.

They continue: “Under this premise, we returned to what we know best: the 60s and 70s, but not taking the usual classic groups, but rather the bands that adapted them in their own way and that have marked us so much, such as Niza, La Casa Azul or Aventuras de Kirlian.”

The result is one of their most explosive and colorful productions – which is saying a lot for the authors of ‘Mambo’ -, partly due to the high bpm’s. After all, this was about being “crazy about the rhythm.” Melody and arrangements take us to the times of Algueró and Trabucchelli, it is true that with a certain prism of the present. The catalog of Elefant, Elastic Band or even Lori Meyers and Anni B Sweet’s work with Temples can come to mind.

The very meta lyrics effectively lead to Guille Milkyway’s intentions, stating that “pop is the only one that can save us.” He even bets on imposing a “moral superiority.” The video is also a vindication of retro in colors, grain and texture, with vintage instruments, double-breasted suits and targets. The tribute to the 70s will materialize even in the title of this third album, which we can anticipate will be ‘Combined Plate’.
