Tay Keith, producer associated with some of the biggest rap hits of the last decade, has died at the age of 29. Nashville police confirmed the facts in a statement, explaining that the artist was found in his apartment while officers were checking his condition. The cause of death has not been released, but he does not suspect foul play.
Keith was one of Drake’s infallible collaborators, with his tag playing on songs like ‘Jimmy Cooks’ or ‘Nonstop’, in addition to producing for artists like Sexyy Red (‘Pound Town’) or Travis Scott (‘Sicko Mode’). The latter earned him his first Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song. In 2024, he was nominated in the same category for the song ‘Rich Flex’ by Drake and 21 Savage. Additionally, Brytavious Chambers, real name, also contributed to Beyoncé’s live album ‘Homecoming’, producing ‘Before I Let Go’.
Chambers managed to mix the heavy, distorted synths of the local Memphis rap he grew up listening to with the melodic style of the late 2000s. He began producing music at home with a microphone, a computer and a keyboard when he was 14 years old. Shortly after, he launched it on DatPiff and YouTube.
The producer’s work reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 on 11 occasions, and gave him four number ones throughout his career: ‘Sicko Mode’, ‘First Person Shooter’, ‘Carnival’ and ‘4×4’.
