Cupid publish “Shared Love”a new album that brings together artists from Spain, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Guatemala and the United States and covers some of the most representative sounds of new Latin music.
Throughout the album, the group led by Pimp Flaco connects diverse voices and scenes around the same theme: romantic relationships, their breakups and transformations. The result is a kind of sentimental map where very different genres and references coexist, from bolero or dream pop to Mexican indie rock, surf pop, contemporary ballads or the echoes of trap.
Among the collaborations, “Parada del Bus” stands out, along with Little Jesuswhich recovers the sounds of Latin pop from the beginning of the century, “404” with DrefQuilawhich opts for an instrumentation closer to alternative rock, or “Calle de la Pena”, together with Pimp Flaco’s brother, Bad Kindergartenwith clear references to Spanish pop.
But it is in its most intimate stretch that “Amor Shared” finds some of its most inspired moments. Bruses participates in “Dolor de Muelas” in a sensitive ballad, while Bhavi accompanies Cupid in “LMMJVS”. The journey is completed with collaborations such as that of Zoe Gotusso in “A hundred birds in the flight are better than one in the hand,” and Jesse Baez in “Bag of Doritos”.
With this unprecedented mix of talents, Cupido has built a work that can be seen both as a collection of songs about heartbreak, but also as a portrait of the new languages of music in Spanish.
