“We go out there acting cool without shirts… It’s normal for them to criticize us”

Gisme, vocalist of Ultraligera, has been the latest guest on Dani Cabana’s podcast, ‘Último Acorde Talks’, and has defended himself against the criticism that both he and his band receive on social networks. In the last year, Ultraligera have experienced great growth, selling out four Rivieras in Madrid and appearing in the large print of many national festivals.

When asked if he believes that criticism is being “increasingly harsh” towards the group, the frontman doesn’t think so: “People are envious,” he says. He attributes it to the fact that “we’re having a great time, I live off what I want, we go out there acting cool without shirts, filling whatever we want and from one day to the next we become headliners.” “It’s normal that they criticize us,” he concludes.

The artist continues to argue his point of view, explaining that the absence of criticism means that the band is not doing well: “Until you have your first vein of hate, the band does not exist.” Furthermore, Gisme is convinced of the type of people who leave these comments on networks: “They usually have bands that don’t work, they are people who spend all day criticizing on X, who need attention, people with feelings of abandonment… They are fighting with the world.”

After swearing that he finds the hate “fun” and that he wouldn’t end it if he could, the band member assures that the criticism doesn’t hurt him, because he sees it “as a fucking promotion.” So, this poses a situation in which someone talks about the Ultraligera concert at a dinner and recommends that the guests listen to their songs: “No one is going to remember.”

However, he suggests that if there is a person at the table who hates the band, the rest of the guests are more likely to look for their music: “If there is someone at that table who is busy talking about how much he hates Ultraligera and how cool we are, when you leave you are going to put it on and it will probably be cool, because they are good songs,” he concludes.
