Gruta 77 bajará la persiana tras veintiséis años de música

Gruta 77 will lower the blinds after twenty-six years of music

Bad news. Grotto 77one of the nerve centers of the underground music scene in the city of Madrid, will close its doors after twenty-six years of activity and more than five thousand concerts scheduled throughout all this time.

Juan Luis ‘Indio’ Nietothe head of the company throughout all these years, gave the news this past weekend through a statement. It will be the end of a hall that has hosted more than five thousand concerts over more than a quarter of a century.

Nieto points out that the time has come to stop because the mental and physical effort required by a place that opens six or seven days a week for eleven months a year is too much to face at fifty-seven years of age.

All kinds of bands and artists, both national and international, have performed on its stage, from Siniestro Total to international ones such as The Casualties or Ratos de Porao, who will perform this June and July respectively at the venue in the Carabanchel neighborhood. But we better leave you with the complete statement in which Nieto explains it better than we do.

“In the month of December 2026, Gruta77, after twenty-six years of frenetic activity, will close its facilities: Concert Hall and Rehearsal Venues. We will continue organizing concerts from the promoter of the same name in different venues in Madrid, but we will end this period after more than 5,100 scheduled events. Personally, I would like to address at this time the Gruta public, to you, clients and friends. I am aware that you are the best Rock and Roll audience on the planet. You have defended and sustained Gruta’77 as if it were a common ideal. We have felt your loyalty and enjoyed together in the good and bad economic times of the room. That is why I have to be honest with you.
I’m exhausted. The mental and physical effort required by a project like Gruta77 is very high. Endless days from morning to night, six or seven days a week for eleven months a year for more than twenty-five years take their toll. Consider that I come from previous similar projects, which add up to thirty-four years of uninterrupted activity in the Madrid night.
At fifty-seven years old I need to rest and gain quality of life. I have defended my dream tooth and nail, I made it a shared dream thanks to your love for Rock and Roll, but now let me be selfish and give me a break. Obviously, we are going to give ourselves a good farewell in these remaining months and then there will be concerts scheduled in other venues under the label of the promoter Gruta77. See you wherever there is Rock and Roll.”
