SVSTO is among the great attractions of Vibra Mahou’s Escenarios Madrid cycle, which usually brings together styles as varied as rap, rock, jazz or indie in the city. The SVSTO concert will be on June 19 at El Sótano and tickets are on sale.
The former Bistec’s project also goes on tour with a new great song under its belt that is titled ‘Bar Manolo’ and is our Song of the Day today.
Consistent with that first solo single that was called ‘Mil €’ and talked about gentrification, ‘Bar Manolo’ is a vindication of the charm of the bars of yesteryear. Out with influencers, out with “cute reforms” made without the slightest personality, out with homogenization designed for guiris.
The lyrics of ‘Bar Manolo’ are explicit in this sense, criticizing “paying gold for a cigar”, protesting against “lattes” and inventions of the type or even claiming the “slap of humidity” and “the scab and dirt” as part of the charm. “Give me a toilet that covers my breath” says his most risky phrase. “Don’t underestimate the power of a tortilla,” at least. The press release explains: «Against modern sanitation, SVSTO compiles in this single all the most natural and imperfect details that made a neighborhood special. That symbolic dirt, that danger, is the life that represents the city, contrary to the aseptic, clean, perfected, uniform and deeply boring image that little by little tries to conquer our streets.
But there is also an irresistible point of melancholy, when Carla Parmenter appeals to nostalgia in the wonderful chorus, for some type of personal memory: “I will always see you standing on the counter of a bar in 2010.”
The video is a reflection of all this, with handwritten signs “cash – no card”, olive tapas, pickles and chorizo sandwiches. A new hit that adds to his repertoire, along with the best songs from his album from last year, ‘Crisis’.
